ZARATA FESTIVAL BOOK CD COMPILATION

 ZARATA FEST BOOK (CD PLUS BOOK)

Since ten years Garcia also organises the Zarata Festival, which is an annual event in his
hometown Bilbao. And ten years means a celebration, and this comes in the form of an almost
square shaped book (17x17 cm), hard cover, and some 250 pages. Garcia could have chosen
for a more documentary styled book, saying who's who on the pictures, which is responsible for
the many drawings that are scattered around in this book and perhaps an effort to translate the
various texts into English. Now, it is impossible to comment on these texts and about the many
pictures and drawings, I can say, 'yeah, lots of people use a laptop it seems, but there is also
some saxophones, cellos and traditional line-ups to be spotted'. Or one could listen to the
compilation CD in the mean time and try to find out if you can spot say Agnes Pe (who has a
DJ duty for many years; all posters are included), Murayama, Garcai himself, Tzesne, Clara de
Asis, Oier Iruretagoiena, Kakofunk Ensemble, Loty Negarty, The Tune 3.0 (with Ilia Belorukov)
or Ferran Fages is; I choose names of people of whom we reviewed music before. There are no
less than twenty pieces on this loaded CD and there is lots of new names to be found here (a=b,
Baba Ilaga, Dario Moratilla, Arruti Column, Grumos Lalai, Enxamio de Carneiro, Al Karpenter, Itziar
Okariz, Bazterrak & Tzesne, Inazio Escudero, Elbis Rever, Orbain Unit, Magmadam) with lots of
different styles, even when computers and noise seem to be in majority here, it is not as heavy
as one would perhaps expect. While perhaps not the most explaining of documentations, there
colourful chaos was well received. (FdW)

Este es nuestro pequeño granito de arena en la gran batalla en la que estamos inmersos, y en ella, el pueblo tiene que tomar fuerza para hacer frente a tal grave amenaza que intentará perpetuarse durante décadas.

Hablar de "La mosca tras la oreja" es enfrentarse a un tránsito fundamental para entender el mundo radicalmente nuevo en el que vivimos: tránsito que va desde un concebir arte y música como recreo, virtuosismo o producto, sueño o especuñación a otro, inconcreto y en perpetua disolución, en que el enfásis ya no se pone en el componer sino en el disponer, no en el concebir sino en el recibir, no en el sonido en sí (un sonido son todas las maneras de ser escuchado), no en el instrumentos, ni siquiera en el tiempo, sino en la situación creada y en todas las conexiones que tal situación es capaz de generar en quien se adentra en ella.
La mosca tras la oreja expone ese (a veces) tortuoso y fluido "devenir" en el que tantos y tan disímiles músicos, a-músicos, no-músicos y demás propositores han confluido. Ordenar, exponer más que explicar, y, si acaso, explicitar subyacentes intenciones, prácticas, pensamientos y demás vicisitudes constituye el meollo de un libro que se nos hizo urgente y que nace ya viejo de tanto como corren los bárbaros tiempos presentes: ¡Oreja, más oreja!... ¡Muera el flit!

Durante una semana, artistas experimentados trabajan en residencia en la Fonoteca para explorar, descubrir y sacar a la luz música/sonidos de artistas/ediciones desconocidos para ellos. A continuación desarrollan un podcast/sesión de escucha editado para la página web del Archivo Online (y otras posibles emisiones radiofónicas/online futuras) con una serie de materiales seleccionados por su particular interés/atractivo para ellos.
Una forma de mostrar sus capacidades de búsqueda/comisariado, de manifestar la potencia de la recombinación sónica y de revelar la magnitud y dimensiones de tanto la comunidad internacional de experimentadores como de la propia Fonoteca. (Francisco Lopez)


During one week, experienced artists work in residence at the Sound Archive to dig, discover and unearth music/sounds from artists/releases unkown to them. Then they create an edited podcast/listening session for the Online Archive website (and other potential future radio/online broadcasts) with a number of selected materials of particular interest/appeal for them. A way to show their mining/curatorial skills, to facilitate discovery for other listeners, to manifest the strength of sonic recombination, and to reveal the expanse and dimension of both the international experimental community and the Sound Archive itself. Trabajo creado en enero de 2011 durante una semana de residencia en la fonoteca. Creado con 2 reproductores de vinilo, 2 de cds y un reproductor de cinta. Sin efectos, ni overdubs. El material sonoro utilizado era totalmente desconocido para mi; incluido el tema de Ponzoña el cual llego a la fonoteca durante la semana de creación del podcast. Respeto total al trabajo de estos artistas/sellos. ¡¡Increible¡¡ colección/tesoro de discos (5000+), he de ir a chekear las cintas... Muchas gracias a la gente del centro puertas de Castilla (Murcia) por el trato y atención recibida. Tambien a Francisco Lopez por invitarme y dejarme urgar un poquito en las entrañas de la "bestia". ¡¡¡Feliz Escucha!!!
